When working with children and adolescents, I implement play and art therapy techniques. As Garry Landreth would say, “toys are children’s words and play is their language”. Many kids who come into treatment are unaware of what therapy is like, especially if this is their first time. The first couple sessions, I like to align with them and get to know them by implementing the toys, and activities they enjoy. I like to get to know the child’s inner world.
